Empire State of Mind

So, I spent last week in New York City with two friends. Now, I’ve had a New York Bucket List ever since I started travelling.

To visit/do the following: Empire StateTop of the RockStatue of LibertyEllis Island9/11 Memorial, MoMA, Guggenheim, Natural History Museum, Yellow Cab RideSubway Ride, New York SliceWalk in Central ParkGrand Central, Watch the Thanksgiving Parde, Metropolitan Arts, Madison Garden, Watch a game at Madison Garden, Walk the Brooklyn Bridge, Ride the Staten Island FerryShop at Macy’s, Times Square, See at show on Broadway

The strike throughs I did on my first trip in 2011. This bolds shows this trip. It was a great trip, very cold, but only on way day did it rain so that was good – although it did happen to be on the day we hit Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island and Top of the Rock so it was a wee bit freezing seeing the sights!

This trip we bought a two day New York Pass to use on the Monday and Tuesday. Two very busy days. Tuesday: Natural History Museum, The Art of the Brick (an artist gallery where everything was made of Lego Bricks), Empire State Building. Wednesday: Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island, Skyscraper Museum, Top of the Rock. Thursday was Thanksgiving and a 6am start gave us prime standing position just out side the Dakota Building to watch the balloons, bands and floats. Friday a quick trip on the Staten Island Ferry and back and wandering down 5th Avenue on Black Friday. Saturday was a day of shopping and as was Sunday before a very early morning to fly back home on the Monday. All in all a good, but incredibly shattering week – I wish I had a pedometer on me!

Going by my list I still have SEVEN things left to see but I’m sure by the next time I head out there it will have extended by a few. I’m pretty sure next time I go it will be summer and it will be warm. Going over Thanksgiving was great, the parade was fantastic but I don’t really do the cold. I don’t do extreme heat either but I do love walking around in shorts and flip-flops. I think I’ll organise the next New York wandering to coincide with the NBA, now that’s a sport I love to watch.

Anyone fancy New York in Summer 2015, let me know, I’m sure I’ll have found a few more things to add to the bucket list by then!
